Hunger

bulimia1

Two thin girls with hungry eyes cheat death with every lost meal.
One is in a mall, skipping meals thinking of cocooning clothing and fading fads.
The other is on the street, prostrate, thinking of empty yesterdays that never die and tomorrows that never live.

  1. “Empty yesterdays that never die and tomorrows that never live” – a line that stays with you and echoes in your mind well after one has finished reading the story. Great Job. I applaud you.

  2. This is haunting how people will let their bodies wither in the belief that they are going to be beautiful. Only they are losing a piece of themselves until they are empty husks of their former selves.

    • ‘Empty husks’.. is such a good description. It is really quite terrifying. I have experienced it myself, and watched a very close friend become severely anorexic as well. Its so sad how someone’s self-image can become so warped. I don’t know if there is really anyone to blame for this- people may blame culture, fashions, etc- but I’ve always felt that the root cause lies deeper.
